SMU-X Opportunity Award Enabling Global Learning, Grooming Global Citizens
The SMU-X Opportunity Award aims to support financially needy students who are embarking on an overseas experiential learning course, also known as SMU-X Overseas (SMU-XO).
SMU-XO is the extended version of SMU-X where students embark on overseas projects directly with the foreign partner organisations and/or universities. Students will have opportunities to visit ASEAN cities (not limited to) to learn and study markets conditions to devise relevant business solutions to partner organisations.
How it works
The fund aims to collectively raise $20,000 each year and subject to the total sums raised, up to 20 SMU-X Opportunity Award valued at $1,000 each will be awarded to students to subsidise their travel expenses.

SMU-XO aims to:
- Familiarise students with the issues and challenges facing global organisations.
- Provide students with an intensive experience working on projects in regional organisations.
- Provide global exposure to our students so as to enable them to become culturally sensitive global citizens.
- Familiarise students with the power of informal networks and the opportunities and possibilities from SMU networks when working globally.
Eligibility:
- Open to all full-time undergraduate SMU students (not applicable to exchange students)
- Enrolled as a student in a SMU-XO course with an overseas travel
- With gross monthly household per capital income (PCI) not exceeding $2,250
- Not a recipient of other awards that provide similar funding for overseas trips for the course
- Preference for students with no prior overseas exposure trip
